SmartestEnergy was launched in 2001 to take advantage of opportunities from the newly deregulated energy market in the UK.

Our founding aim was to enable access for smaller embedded generators to the electricity market. We have since grown to become the UK’s leading consolidator for the independent generation sector.

The combined capacity of our generation sites recently passed the 2000MW milestone, the largest non-utility generated portfolio in the UK.

Our retail business was established in 2008 to provide the UK’s first flexible renewable supply service for business and public sector customers.

Since our first customer, Barnardo's, signed up we have rapidly expanded our market share and now supply some of the UK’s leading names with both renewable and traditional electricity.

In November 2011, we celebrated our 10 year anniversary and a successful decade in the energy industry. It has been an exciting journey which has taken us from new entrant in the industry to a leader in our field.
