We’re delighted to be celebrating our first decade in business in 2012.

It has certainly been an exciting journey which has taken us from new entrant in the industry to a leader in our field. Our customers have played a crucial part in that success and we’re looking forward to continue to work with them as they help shape the UK’s energy landscape.

The milestones below highlight just some of the key developments in the company’s history so far – we’re already working on the next ones!

				August 2001 Robert Owens became a full-time employee, marking the official start of the SmartestEnergy team. Robert is still working at SmartestEnergy and is now Vice President, Commercial.

				April 2002 We registered our first British Sugar sites - Allscott, Cantley, Newark and York. These sites were our first major Power Purchase Agreement customers.

				April 2005 The British Electricity Trading and Transmission Arrangements (BETTA) were introduced in April 2005, allowing us to expand into Scotland and establish one of our most important markets.

				August 2005 As we approached our 4th birthday, we outgrew our office at 120 Moorgate and moved to a larger office at 17 Dominion Street in the City of London.

				April 2006 After joining the company in 2004 as Vice President of Commercial, Robert Groves became Chief Operating Officer of SmartestEnergy.

				June 2008 SmartestEnergy's retail business is launched and the Ipswich office opens at IP City Centre with 16 staff.

				September 2008 SmartestEnergy signs it's very first retail customer, Barnado's. Barnado's are still a SmartestEnergy customer today.

				November 2009 SmartestEnergy secure deal with Marks and Spencer to supply all Scottish stores with renewable energy. They are still a SmartestEnergy customer today.

				December 2009 As our reputation in the industry continues to grow, we sponsor "Best Renewable Project" at the Green Energy Awards.

				March 2010 SmartestEnergy's first retail annual conference held at Glaziers Hall in London. More than 100 industry professionals attend the successful event.

				July 2010 As the company neared 100 employees, we moved to a bigger office at Dashwood House in the City of London to accommodate our planned growth.

				April 2011 After joining the company in 2006 and working in many different roles, Hiroyuki Sawada becomes Chief Operating Officer of SmartestEnergy.

				June 2011 The streets of the City of Salford in Greater Manchester are being lit by renewable energy following the first contract win of its kind by SmartestEnergy.

				August 2011 SmartestEnergy's Ipswich-based teams moved to larger premises, Grafton House, as they geared up to support ambitious expansion plans for the business.

				September 2011 Growing demand from businesses, landowners and communities north of the border led SmartestEnergy to establish a new office in Glasgow.

				November 2011 SmartestEnergy held an event with 120 guests from across the energy industry to celebrate our 10 year anniversary!
