green deal
The Green deal was presented to Parliament as part The Energy Bill on 8th December 2010 and will be launched in autumn 2010. This initiative will provide a framework through which private companies can offer their services to improve the energy efficiency of consumers’ homes and business at no upfront cost.
At the core of the Green Deal proposals is the ‘Green Deal Plan’, a mechanism that will allow payments for the energy efficiency measures to be recouped through instalments on consumers’ energy bills. The overall intention of the Green Deal is to transform the energy efficiency of properties in Britain to reduce energy demand and help meet national Carbon budgets.
company position
SmartestEnergy broadly supports the aims of the Green Deal scheme to provide domestic customers with access to finance to pay for energy efficiency measures.
We do have concerns over some of the specific proposals and disagree with the planned inclusion of business consumers.
