Nuclear decommissioning waste rules published – the clean frame work - 8/12/2011
On the 8th December 2011, the Government finalized its new Nuclear Clean Framework with a set of statutory rules on funding nuclear decommissioning. This guidance states that new operators must set aside insolvency-proof funds to clean up the nuclear site from day one of its operation. Operators must also have an achievable plan for decommissioning with a robust estimate of the costs it will involve. This guidance is intended to provide investor certainty and protect the taxpayer from footing the bill for nuclear decommissioning.
