retail market review

Ofgem, the regulator of the electricity and gas markets in Great Britain, launched the Retail Market Review in 2010.

As part of the review it will be looking into how effectively energy companies have implemented a series of reforms introduced following Ofgem’s Retail Market Probe in October 2008.

Those reforms included the removal of unjustified price differences, required standards of acceptable practice and improved consumer information such as annual energy statements.

company position statement

SmartestEnergy welcomes moves to improve transparency for customers, provide a level playing field for suppliers and encourage new entrants.

However, we are concerned that the failings of a small number of suppliers are being addressed by heavy-handed proposals which will impact on all in the market.
