the red tape challenge
The Cabinet Office Red Tape Challenge has been designed to give the public the opportunity to evaluate government regulations and discuss how the aims of these regulations can be fulfilled in the most effective way.
One of the key areas of focus within the Red Tape Challenge is energy, focusing on how the energy regulatory environment can promote growth and encourage competition within the energy sector. The energy consultation closed on December 30th 2011.
SmartestEnergy has responded to this consultation, urging a 'joined up' approach to regulation of the energy sector. In its written response, SmartestEnergy argues that the scale of new regulations and policy developments being introduced in the energy sector means it is important they are considered and planned together.
“We believe that a ‘joined-up’ approach in a visible and transparent framework is the key to the effective regulation needed to encourage investment, stimulate competition and protect consumers,” said Colin Prestwich, SmartestEnergy’s Head of Regulation.
