In addition to the price of the exported power, renewable generators receive additional benefits from Renewable Obligation Certificates (ROCs) and Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGOs) certificates.

These certificates can make a significant difference to the value of a generation site and our Power Purchase Agreements provide revenue from these as well as from exported electricity and embedded benefits.

We can support with the process of accreditation, required to benefit from these schemes, contact us to discuss further.

Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGOs)

REGOs are certificates which demonstrate that electricity has been produced from renewable sources. One REGO represents one megawatt hour (MWh) of electricity and is the certificate that carries the carbon attributes of the electricity.

These REGO certificates are used by suppliers to meet the Fuel Mix Disclosure condition in their supply licenses. We also use allocate a REGO for each MWh of renewable electricity we supply, providing transparency from generation to supply point.

The REGO scheme is administered by Ofgem and installations have to be accredited before certificates can be issued. All REGOs issued in a year will be referenced in the Ofgem Renewable and CHP register, allocated against the supplier that held them at the end of the financial year.

Renewable Obligation Certificates (ROCs)

ROCs are issued to accredited renewable generators for their renewable electricity and are used by suppliers to demonstrate they have met their obligation under the Renewables Obligation (RO) scheme, Generators can trade these ROCs to generate value in addition to the wholesale value of their exported power.

The Renewables Obligation (RO) is a support scheme for renewable generation that puts an increasing obligation on suppliers to supply a proportion of their electricity from renewable sources. ROCs are banded according to technology, with some technologies benefiting from multiple ROCs per MWh.

We can help generators maximise their ROCs, with the following options:

  • A fixed price per ROC provides the generator with certainty and improved monthly cash-flow
  • A processing fee per ROC offers a two stage ROC payment consisting of the relevant Buy-Out Price and a later additional payment representing the recycled supplier Buy-Out payments, less a fee
