Long-standing relationship strengthened with new long-term Contracts for Difference Power Purchase Agreements, supporting a sustainable energy future.

LONDON, 13 August 2025SmartestEnergy, the renewable energy company helping Britain’s independent generators and businesses navigate the energy transition, and AlphaReal, a specialist secure income investment manager, are pleased to announce three new long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) under the UK Government’s Contracts for Difference (CfD) scheme.

Building on a long-standing partnership, the new PPAs bring over 73MW of solar and wind capacity to the UK energy market, with a forecasted combined annual output of 95,000MWh, marking a noteworthy contribution to decarbonising the UK grid. These projects are the latest step forward in the collaboration between SmartestEnergy and AlphaReal, providing a secure and reliable route to market for AlphaReal’s renewable energy investments through Parent Company Guarantee (PCG)-backed contracts.

AlphaReal was successfully awarded with three contracts in Allocation Round 6 (AR6), including two ground-mount solar PV projects and one onshore wind project. The three projects are now secured under 15-year CfD PPAs with SmartestEnergy. With the PPAs including the commissioning period before the CfD officially starts, SmartestEnergy is supporting each project from commissioning through to the Commercial Operations Date, extending the effective contract duration to approximately 16 years, with discounts to the Intermittent Market Reference Price (IMRP) scheduled to begin on 1st April 2026.

James Clark, Business Development Manager at SmartestEnergy, said:

“We’re proud to be AlphaReal’s chosen partner on their CfD-backed portfolio. Having built a strong partnership over several successful projects, these latest PPAs reflect the trust AlphaReal places in SmartestEnergy to deliver a competitive and dependable long-term route to market for their CfD assets. As the energy landscape continues to evolve, we look forward to deepening our collaboration.”

Robert van Maaren, Commercial Manager, Renewables at AlphaReal, said:

Securing the three contracts in CfD Allocation Round 6 is a major milestone in AlphaReal delivering on its business model of long-term, de-risked income arrangements for new and existing renewable energy projects. We are pleased to partner with SmartestEnergy to provide a route to market for these three projects.”

Together, SmartestEnergy and AlphaReal are driving forward a shared ambition to empower the energy transition by unlocking new capacity, fostering innovation, and working towards a more resilient, renewable energy infrastructure system.
