The regulator said Jonathan Brearley had overseen a “period of significant transformation” during his tenure.
“Under Jonathan’s leadership, the organisation stabilised the energy market and protected consumers during the gas crisis, reformed the financial resilience of the retail sector, and saw consumer satisfaction rise from record lows to record highs,” it said.
Tim Jarvis, currently director general for markets, will serve as acting CEO while the recruitment of a replacement is underway.
Jonathan Brearley, outgoing CEO, Ofgem said: “I am confident that Ofgem is in excellent hands with Tim alongside the wider executive committee and well-positioned to continue delivering on its mission to protect energy consumers now and into the future, as we advance through the energy transition.”
