The National Energy System Operator (NESO) is looking to make its Demand Flexibility Service (DFS) bi-directional from April.
Businesses will receive payments for actions that either reduce or increase demand to support system needs. NESO has also reduced the minimum flexibility that must be provided which will enable smaller businesses can take part. Participation will be available from as low as 0.1MW.
“Flexibility isn’t just reactive - it’s a new source of competitive advantage, helping businesses lower costs, strengthen resilience, and contribute to the quiet power that keeps Britain running efficiently and sustainably,” said NESO.
Ofgem is expected to announce its decision on whether the service can go ahead next month ahead of its introduction in April 14.
