The Government has confirmed the targets for the upcoming Capacity Market auctions.
In a letter to the system operator, the Government said it would that following its recommendation it will increase the T-1 auction target set in July 2025 by 0.5 GW to account for technical considerations and expected non-delivery. The auction target is now 6.3 GW for delivery in 2026/27.
The target for the T-4 auction, for 2029/30, is 39.4 GW with set-aside 1GW for a future auction.
Smart energy company GridBeyond, said the upcoming auctions “will play a critical role in ensuring reliable supply for households and businesses” as the UK continues its transition toward a more resilient, flexible and low-carbon electricity system.
“For market participants, the updated targets increase opportunity within the T-1 auction and maintain strong procurement levels in the T-4 auction,” it said.
