Coalition urges action over community energy challenges
A coalition of over 250 organisations and businesses have urged the Government to take action to unlock the full potential of community energy.
A coalition of over 250 organisations and businesses have urged the Government to take action to unlock the full potential of community energy.
An open letter led by Community Energy England welcomed the ambition outlined in the Government’s Local Power Plan and Warm Homes Plan, but highlighted challenges that must be addressed including fair export pricing, reducing grid access delays, and improving access to public land and rooftops.
The letter stressed community energy organisations are already generating clean power, cutting bills and reinvesting profits locally.
“Yet 379 MW of community schemes are currently stalled due to grid and policy barriers. Investment has fallen sharply over the past year. Without targeted action, the UK risks missing its 8GW community and local energy ambition by 2030,” it warned.
