Industry leaders have welcomed the unveiling of a 10-year infrastructure strategy aimed at enabling new generation and businesses to connect to the energy system.
The Government said the strategy aimed to “fix the failures of the past”, prioritising long-term outcomes over short-term announcements, providing the certainty and stability needed to attract investment, boosting British supply chains and jobs, and taking a joined-up view to improve planning and delivery.
In response Energy UK CEO Dhara Vyas said utility infrastructure is increasingly interconnected as the country moves toward a low carbon, digitalised, energy system.
“This strategy is fundamental to delivery of the Government’s growth and clean power missions and will give additional certainty to draw investment into the UK.
“We look forward to the delivery of the Infrastructure Pipeline to enable much greater coordination of projects and the energy sector will continue to work with government over the next decade to implement this plan.”
