Ofgem has launched a new taskforce to help drive a better approach to innovation across the energy network.
The Energy Networks Innovation Taskforce brings together senior leaders from energy networks and industry to set challenges for its Strategic Innovation Fund to tackle.
The taskforce will focus on “transformative ideas” designed around consumers and will produce a report with recommendations for innovation challenges for the fund by April 2026. Ofgem said aim of the taskforce is to lay the foundation for a “more strategic, collaborative approach to future network innovation”.
“We want network companies and their innovation partners in industry to collectively agree how to solve the big infrastructure challenges and be more ambitious,” said Marzia Zafar, Ofgem’s Deputy Director of Digitalization and Innovation.
The energy market isn’t just about buying and selling energy; ultimately it’s about people and relationships. We’re experts in our field but we’re human and relatable – so as we grow our network of consumers, generators, brokers and employees we never lose sight of what’s important – true partnership that energises success.
