GB wind hits new record high

British wind energy generation has hit a new record high according to the system operator.
NESO said the 23.88 GW achieved beat the previous record of 23.83 GW set on 5 December.
RenewableUK’s Chief Executive Tara Singh said the achievement was particularly significant at a time when strengthening domestic energy security is high on the agenda.
“Wind provided more than half of Britain’s electricity during this record period, and it’s highly significant that earlier in the day low-cost wind and solar squeezed expensive gas off our energy system - with gas falling to its lowest level of generation for nearly two years, providing just 2.3% of our electricity,” she said.
“That’s what the energy transition looks like in practice, and it shows why we need to continue to build out an ambitious pipeline of new clean energy projects now and in the years ahead”.
