Government denies offshore wind targets at risk

Government ministers have refuted claims that the UK will fall short of its ambitious offshore wind targets.
A report by Bloomberg New Energy Finance warned that rising costs, a stretched supply chain and falling investor confidence could mean that the UK will fall short of its target to have 43GW of offshore wind capacity by the end of the decade by at least 10GW.
However, a Government spokesperson reject the claims.
“We have a strong pipeline of projects to deliver 43GW-50GW offshore wind by 2030 and our mission-led approach ensures we can steer our way through global pressures and individual commercial decisions to reach our targets,” they said.
"Through our mission we will deliver an energy system that brings energy bills down for good and bolsters Britain’s energy security as part of our plan for change."
“Crucially, it could remove the need for the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism which is a tax on exports of electricity and goods from the UK and other countries into the EU.”
