Industry leaders have welcomed the green light for what could become the world’s largest wind farm.
The 4.1GW Berwick Bank offshore wind farm, located around 38km east of the Scottish Borders coastline, will now seek a CfD before a final investment decision is taken.
If fully delivered, the SSE project would become the world’s largest offshore wind farm, capable of generating enough clean energy to power more than six million homes annually.
RenewableUK's Deputy Chief Executive Jane Cooper said: “The approval of Berwick Bank Offshore Wind Farm is a pivotal milestone for Britain’s energy transition. With 307 turbines, this will be one of the world’s largest wind farms bringing with it billions of pounds of new investment to Scotland and UK coastal economies.
"Projects like Berwick Bank, and others coming alongside it, present a real opportunity for the UK to keep growing jobs in the sector and its supply chain.”
