Half-hourly metering milestone

Over a quarter of all electricity meters in Britain have now moved to half-hourly settlement.

Elexon said more than 8.4 million meters have been migrated as it also starts to make more detailed consumption data available to drive innovation.

The transition of all electricity meters to half-hourly settlement is expected by May 2027.

Data is now being collected on the number of meters that have switched to half-hourly settlement and being made available through Elexon’s MHHS dashboards.

Elexon said suppliers and other companies can use the half-hourly consumption data it provides to create more tailored offers and services that reward consumers for being more flexible in their electricity use.

Chief Executive Peter Stanley said: “As suppliers transition more meters to the new half-hourly settlement arrangements, we are working quickly to make data associated with these available.”
