A warning that Reform UK would scrap renewable energy contracts if it came to power have sparked a wave of criticism.
In a letter sent to energy companies, Reform’s deputy leader Richard Tice argued there was “no public mandate for the real-world consequences” and warned developers that the party would “seek to strike down all contracts” awarded in the next CfD round.
Jess Ralston, analyst at the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit, said: “Arguing against British renewables is arguing for more foreign gas, which will increasingly come from abroad as the North Sea continues its inevitable decline - a geological fact.
“Building more renewables means energy security and shielding households from volatile international gas markets, which the voting public are keen to see.
Ana Musat, Renewable UK’s policy director, said: “Every recent opinion poll shows that the vast majority of people support the development of renewable energy.”
