Key steps set out to unlock flexibility for clean power push
A new report has highlighted the key steps needed to unlock the five-fold growth in consumer-led flexibility (CLF) needed to achieve the Government’s clean power targets.
A new report has highlighted the key steps needed to unlock the five-fold growth in consumer-led flexibility (CLF) needed to achieve the Government’s clean power targets.
The Association for Decentralised Energy said CLF was at the heart of efforts to ensure consumers can realise the benefits of increasing access to renewables.
The key foundations identified in the report include improving market accessibility for low carbon assets seeking to participate in flexibility services.
“It is the responsibility of DESNZ, Ofgem, NESO, DSOs, and the Market Facilitator to design and maintain fair and open markets, suitable for a net zero future, that will incentivise millions of British homes and businesses to participate in a secure and affordable electricity system,” it said.
The report also said the energy system needs to rapidly embrace automation and digitalisation in order to capture the full benefits of net zero and affordability for consumers.
“Secure, scalable, and standardised data sharing infrastructure is needed for the energy system as a whole to drive coordination between different actors.”
