Industry leaders have maintained the UK remains an attractive market for investors after a major offshore wind project was paused.
Orsted said the Hornsea 4 project off the East Yorkshire coast no longer made economic sense due to rising costs. It will now evaluate options for future development of the project
Hornsea 4 would have become one of the biggest offshore wind farms in the world with a potential capacity of 2.4GW – enough to power more than a million homes.
RenewableUK’s Deputy Chief Executive Jane Cooper said the UK remains one of the best places in the world to build offshore wind farms.
“The unique cost pressures faced by Hornsea 4 have led to a rethink on this particular project, and we need to do everything we can to keep a stable market for all other projects going forward.”
