The UK is only second to Japan for the number of companies having validated science-based targets to cut their climate impact.
There are now 10,000 companies globally that have an approach backed by the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi), which said the milestone reflects the growing scale of corporate climate action across sectors and regions.
Japan and the UK are followed by the United States and China at the top of the league table.
“The need to respond to the climate crisis has never been greater, as climate change increasingly threatens core business functions and value drivers—from operational efficiency to supply chain stability,” said David Kennedy, CEO at the SBTi.
“Meanwhile, the business case for climate action has never been stronger, with the firms embracing the opportunities of a carbon constrained world already benefitting from revenue growth, enhanced resilience and stronger market positioning.”
