Strong industry support for meter data depository
Plans to make detailed consumption data collected through half-hourly settlement available to support innovation have seen strong industry support.
Plans to make detailed consumption data collected through half-hourly settlement available to support innovation have seen strong industry support.
Elexon, which is leading the MHHS programme, launched a consultation earlier this year to ask industry stakeholders for views on the creation of an energy data depository. Once the implementation of half hourly settlement is complete in July 2027, Elexon will receive and process around 500bn meter readings per year and the data could be used by suppliers and other companies to develop new products and services to scale up consumer flexibility provision.
Overall, Elexon said the consultation found “strong support” for the plans, with most respondents recognising potential benefits for their organisations and wider industry.
However, concerns around consumer consent, data protection, and security were raised, with respondents requesting more clarity in these areas as the proposal develops.
A BSC modification will be proposed in July to enable Elexon to create and manage a data repository, as well as governance arrangements for it.
