Play a central role in driving performance across UK and EU prompt power and gas markets. Blending advanced quantitative research with disciplined manual execution, you will apply mathematical models, systematic strategies, and real-time market insight to optimise proprietary trading activity. This is a high-impact role where analytical rigour meets fast-paced decision-making, directly contributing to P&L within clearly defined risk mandates.
You will actively execute and refine prompt positions while maintaining sharp oversight of liquidity, order book dynamics, imbalance signals, and cross-commodity drivers. Working closely with analysts and developers, you’ll enhance and expand trading models, strengthen market fundamental views, and monitor key price drivers such as demand trends, renewable output, generation stack shifts, interconnector flows, and system operator actions. Alongside precise trade capture, P&L attribution, and risk reporting, you’ll help shape desk playbooks and systematic workflow improvements—continually advancing trading capability and performance.
What skills/experience do I need to be successful?
Substantial experience in European power markets, with a track record of speculative P&L generation;
Experience in building and communicating trade ideas with risk/reward to senior management and peers;
Deep understanding of UK power market fundamentals and trading dynamics;
Market microstructure for power/gas liquidity and imbalance dynamics;
Data analysis and predictive modelling fundamentals with knowledge of Python for data work, prototyping and strategy support.
