Introducing our new sales team

SmartestEnergy, a new entrant into Australian energy market, retailing electricity to commercial and industrial customers across Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia is pleased to welcome two new members to our sales team, Mandy Cheffirs and Matthew Koopman. 

Mandy and Matthew join our highly experienced and accomplished local energy professionals delivering expertise across trading, risk, sales, information technology, energy operations and customer experience. 

Together Mandy and Matthew will be driving SmartestEnergy Australia’s sales activities.  Their aim is to empower customers by sharing SmartestEnergy’s expertise and helping our customers make more informed decision and delivering tailored energy solution to meet our customer’s business needs. 

Both Mandy and Matt are committed to developing the broker channel as SmartestEnergy Australia’s primary sales route to market.


Mandy Cheffirs, Channel Development Manager.

Mandy Cheffirs is a highly accomplished Commercial and Industrial (C&I) Account Management professional who’s worked in the energy sector since 2006.  She has extensive channel management experience and thrives on building positive, mutually rewarding relationships with her customers and energy brokers.   

Mandy has played pivotal roles in the launch and growth of energy companies. At Simply Energy, her management of mass market sales channels during the start-up phase delivered 400,000 new customers. At Alinta Energy she was responsible for Broker and Consultant relationships, which were a key channel to market for the C&I team. She went on to acquire and manage customers totalling more than 1 TWh pa across almost 1,500 sites.

The prospect of playing a key role in growing another successful energy business is one that Mandy relishes. As she says: “I love that SmartestEnergy’s Australian journey is just beginning.  We have a great team of people and leaders who are supportive and committed to innovation and doing whatever’s necessary to get the job done.


Matthew Koopman, Channel Account Manager.

Matthew “Matt” Koopman sales and customer advocate professional with a proven track record in acquiring, engaging and retaining customers.

While working at technology firm Rockend, he was awarded Sales Person of the Year for 2015/16. Shortly after Matt was seconded into a customer experience role with a focus on redesigning the sales process. Matt’s ability to understand and nurture customers soon led to a more strategic role, working with a handful of key accounts to map out their long-term needs and feed insights back into the business. His achievements during this time were recognised by the Customer Service Institute of Australia’s Service Excellence Awards, as a finalist in the category of Customer Service Advocate of the Year 2018.


Switching to the energy sector in 2019, Matt’s passion for turning customer insights into measurable improvements played an important part in Alinta Energy’s renewed focus on customers. It will also be valuable in his role as Channel Account Manager at SmartestEnergy, as he seeks to establish and nurture relationships with brokers to develop avenues to market.

When he’s not making life better for his customers, Matt enjoys golf, coaching soccer and brewing his own craft beer. He recently completed an MBA in finance at UTS Sydney. When asked how his colleagues might describe him, Matt says: “Enthusiastic, reliable and good for a beer at the end of a working week.”
