SmartestEnergy continues to be the only UK electricity supplier accredited by CDP as one of their Renewable Energy Providers, with the partnership moving into its second year.
The supplier’s 100% renewable electricity, which is also independently certified by the Carbon Trust, provides the traceability and transparency to support UK companies disclosing their carbon emissions.
CDP, formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project, runs the global disclosure system that enables companies, cities, states and regions to measure and manage their environmental impacts. Over 6,300 companies disclosed their environmental data to CDP in 2017.
To support businesses with disclosing environmental information, CDP partners with select organisations that provide solutions to support sustainable deployment and tackle climate change.
SmartestEnergy initially partnered with CDP in 2017 and following a year of joint engagement and educational activities with CDP members and SmartestEnergy customers, the partnership will continue through 2018.
CDP has just 6Renewable Energy Providers around the world and SmartestEnergy is the first and only UK supplier to receive accreditation.
David Cockshott, Chief Commercial Officer of SmartestEnergy, commented:
“We strongly believe that businesses trying to do the right thing deserve full transparency from suppliers around renewable electricity. By giving our customers confidence in what they’re buying, we can help to drive demand for renewable electricity and support the continued growth of clean energy. We are proud to be continuing our work with CDP in this area.”
“The wider impact of decarbonisation is now being felt as increased renewables make the system harder to balance, opening up new opportunities for businesses to actively participate. As well as supporting our customers with their renewable procurement, we are also helping them identify and optimise their operational flexibility – which we see as a crucial step for responsible businesses.”
Paul Robins, Head of Partnerships at CDP, commented:
“We are delighted to once again be working with SmartestEnergy to increase the uptake of renewable electricity and carbon reporting by UK businesses. With the support they can provide by bringing transparency and confidence to renewable electricity supply, we’re confident that their services will continue being of great value to companies responding to CDP.”
SmartestEnergy’s certified 100% renewable electricity products are certified by the Carbon Trust to comply with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Scope 2 Guidance. They supply renewable electricity to well-known brands such as the John Lewis Partnership, Saint-Gobain UK and Landsec.
The next deadline for companies to submit climate change data to CDP is 31st July 2018.
