SmartestEnergy partner with the Women’s Utilities Network
Company news

On Tuesday, 8th March, we celebrate International Women’s Day and with this in mind, SmartestEnergy Limited (UK) are delighted to announce our partnership with the Women's Utilities Network (WUN).

In the Summer of 2021, SmartestEnergy joined the WUN in support of their mission to develop and encourage women within the utilities sector – a sector that has historically seen women under-represented, particularly in senior roles. As a partner, we are proud to join forward-thinking utility companies to collaboratively drive change around equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI).

Goula Charalambous, Vice President Human Resources comments:

"One of SmartestEnergy's key ambitions is to become a company embedding a culture focused upon equality, diversity, and inclusion. To ensure we build an accepting and enjoyable workplace for all, we have established our ‘Smartest Balance’ initiative. The overall purpose of Smartest Balance is to support and advance those who can make a positive difference in the workplace. We are thrilled to partner with the Women's Utilities Network, their mission aligns with our Smartest Balance goals, and we are very excited about future collaboration opportunities with them."

The WUN was founded in 2018 by five like-minded women. and together with the WUN partners, they have created a significant movement with over 2,300 members and free events, such as; their next virtual event on the 23rd March: The importance of PPAs in the growth of renewables. WUN Founder and CEO of Energy Bridge, Jo Butlin will be hosting the event with guest speakers, including Louise Wapshare, our CEO of SmartestEnergy Business Ltd.

Louise Wapshare recently appeared as a special guest on the WUN4ALL podcast series, sharing learnings and insights throughout her career path spanning a number of business sectors. Louise also discussed her career transitions and offered some leadership tips on the podcast.

With employee networking events taking place across our UK and international offices this week to celebrate International Women's Day, we are also planning an external networking event at our London HQ in April. We look forward to collaborating with the WUN to bring members together, celebrating women in the energy industry and discussing what SmartestEnergy is doing to support women and push for gender equality in the workplace.

We’d like to thank the WUN for welcoming us as partners and inviting us along to their events as guest speakers. We look forward to working with the WUN team this year as we continue to develop our talent pipeline and empower our workforce towards equality, diversity, and inclusion.
