LONDON, 29 June 2026 – SmartestEnergy, the renewables-focused energy company helping Britain’s independent generators and businesses navigate the energy transition, and OnPath Energy, one of the UK’s leading renewable energy developers , have signed a co-located solar PV and battery storage transaction for a project in East Yorkshire.
Common Farm Solar Park, is expected to begin operations next year, it marks SmartestEnergy’s first co-location deal and OnPath Energy’s first co-located solar and battery project in the UK.
As co-located projects continue to evolve across the UK market, the transaction introduces a revenue floor mechanism, providing a degree of income certainty while allowing participation in market upside. This structure supports investor and lender confidence whilst retaining the project’s ability to share in market upsides.
The project also reflects the complementary nature of solar and battery storage. While solar provides stable, low-cost renewable generation, the battery enables flexibility by responding to demand and price signals, helping to optimise the value of the shared connection.
Robert Luke, Trading Originator, SmartestEnergy, said: “We’re pleased to have signed our first co-located solar and battery transaction with OnPath Energy. Co-location is playing an increasingly important role in how the market evolves, particularly as grid capacity becomes more constrained.
“This project demonstrates how integrated structures can improve both efficiency and investment confidence. By combining a revenue floor with optimisation across both assets, we’ve been able to support a bankable solution in a relatively new and fast-moving part of the market.
“It also reflects the strength of our relationship with OnPath Energy and our ability to structure flexible agreements that meet the needs of more complex renewable projects.”
Justin Swan, Commercial Energy Manager at OnPath Energy, adds: "The Common Farm Solar Park will bring a wide range of direct environmental, economic and community benefits to the local area, and will further increase the contribution that OnPath Energy is making towards helping the UK meet its crucial energy production targets."
This transaction builds on SmartestEnergy’s existing relationship with OnPath Energy, with multiple wind and solar projects. It also supports SmartestEnergy’s broader strategy to expand its role in battery optimisation, co-location and other flexible renewable energy solutions.
Together, the companies are supporting the continued growth of co-located renewable projects in the UK and Europe, helping to unlock grid capacity, improve project viability and accelerate the transition to a more flexible, low-carbon energy system.
