Former Senior Vice President, Strategy & Business Development steps up to lead UK operations as the business enters a new chapter of growth
London, 07 October 2026 – SmartestEnergy, the renewables-focused energy company helping businesses navigate the energy transition, has today announced the appointment of Beth Reid as Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SmartestEnergy Limited.
Beth steps up from her role as Senior Vice President, Strategy & Business Development, which she has held for the past two years, responsible for shaping the strategic direction of the SmartestEnergy group for success in the evolving energy landscape. In her new role, she will lead SmartestEnergy Limited’s 550+ person strong UK business, across its trading, commercial and industrial, and generation operations, reporting to Group CEO, Robert Groves.
As Acting CEO, Beth will focus on the continued growth of SmartestEnergy’s UK business, the foundation of the Group’s 26-year history. SmartestEnergy is the UK’s third largest commercial and industrial (C&I) business supplier, holding a 10% share in the UK C&I retail market, and 9% of the UK renewable independent Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) market. Beth will also work with SmartestEnergy Business Limited, the Group’s UK business dedicated to supplying SMEs.
Beth Reid, Acting Chief Executive Officer, SmartestEnergy, said: “I’m proud to be stepping into this role at such an exciting and pivotal moment of growth for SmartestEnergy. Every day, I see first-hand what this business can achieve, organically growing to become one of the UK’s top three business electricity suppliers, and winning the trust of a scaled independent generator community to deliver their power competitively to market every day. My focus will be to build on that momentum. That means giving our customers, both downstream and upstream, the support they need to navigate the changing energy market, and making sure SmartestEnergy remains a great place to work for our people.”
Robert Groves, Group Chief Executive Officer, SmartestEnergy, said: “Beth has been instrumental to the growth and success of SmartestEnergy since her joining 2 years ago, and I’m delighted she will be leading our UK operations. She combines a deep understanding of our customers with a clear vision of where the market is heading. The UK business is the foundation of our integrated model, and the experience we’ve built here continues to shape how we grow globally. Under Beth’s leadership, I have every confidence that our UK operations will continue to go from strength to strength.”
Beth brings over 25 years of global experience across the industrial gases, energy, and renewable energy sectors. Prior to joining SmartestEnergy she was previously Vice President of Renewables, Growth and Transformation at UGI International.
The appointment of Beth comes as the SmartestEnergy Group continues to grow internationally, under Group CEO, Robert Groves. The Group now employs more than 900 people across the UK, US and Australia, and in April 2026 acquired an 85% stake in Factorenergia, one of Spain’s leading independent electricity and gas suppliers, extending its footprint into Iberia and Latin America. The growth is backed and underpinned by SmartestEnergy’s parent company, Marubeni Corporation.
