Industry and Code Bodies have approved SmartestEnergy’s MHHS Supplier Qualification, subject to service activation when customer migration begins in October 2026. This is a key milestone in its preparations for Market-wide Half-Hourly Settlement (MHHS).

Qualification confirms that SmartestEnergy has met the industry requirements needed to operate under MHHS. It also reflects the progress made across its systems, processes and operational readiness activity.

A key milestone in preparing for MHHS

Market-wide Half-Hourly Settlement (MHHS) is a major industry programme designed to modernise how electricity consumption is measured and settled across Great Britain, supporting a more accurate, flexible and efficient energy system.

For SmartestEnergy, Supplier Qualification approval is an important step towards migration and confirms its readiness to support customers once MHHS is in place.

Migration timeline update

Alongside achieving qualification approval, SmartestEnergy has received approval to move from the industry’s MHHS Migration Wave 3 to Wave 4. This means customer migration is now expected to begin from October 2026, rather than August 2026 as previously communicated.

The move to Wave 4 has been agreed at an industry level with Elexon and Ofgem and provides additional flexibility in delivery timelines.

This additional time will help SmartestEnergy make sure its systems, processes and teams are ready to support customers through migration and beyond.

What this means for customers

There is no immediate impact for customers as a result of either Supplier Qualification or the updated migration timeline.

Customers’ electricity supply, contract arrangements, pricing and day-to-day relationship with SmartestEnergy remain unchanged.

Customers do not need to do anything at this stage. If SmartestEnergy needs anything from them to support migration, it will contact them directly.

SmartestEnergy will continue to keep customers updated as plans develop.

Introducing the MHHS Customer Migration Guide

SmartestEnergy has launched a new MHHS Customer Migration Guide to help customers understand what migration means and what to expect. The guide covers: what MHHS migration means; what customers can expect before, during and after migration; frequently asked questions and common myths; the latest migration updates and milestones.

Looking ahead

As preparations continue, SmartestEnergy is committed to keeping customers informed and supported through the transition to MHHS. Customers with questions can speak to their Account Manager or contact the MHHS Programme team directly at SEL-MHHS@smartestenergy.com.
