Plans to offer more opportunities for businesses and consumers to benefit from flexibility have been unveiled.

The system operator has set out proposals to expand the capabilities of its Demand Flexibility Service (DFS) and to combine it with the Local Constraints Market (LCM) to create a single flexibility service.

The LCM delivered flexibility on the network boundary between England and Scotland, providing opportunities for consumers and businesses to be rewarded for increasing their electricity demand when electricity supplies are abundant.

NESO is now planning to roll out this approach nationwide, and the DFS will become the route to market for consumer-led flexibility.

Rebecca Beresford, Director of Markets, NESO said the move would create a “clearer framework for providers, unlock greater participation and deliver better value for consumers”.
