Faster industry decarbonisation urged

UK industry leaders have called on the Government to accelerate industrial decarbonisation policies.
In a joint letter the Carbon Capture and Storage Association, Hydrogen UK and Electrify Industry said delays are putting jobs, investment and national energy security at risk.
The groups said a combination of high electricity prices, international competition and policy uncertainty are placing huge pressures on UK industry.
They want the Government to take action to reduce electricity costs and accelerate electrification and the use of hydrogen and carbon capture.
Daniel Paterson from Electrify Industry said high prices were preventing British manufacturers from investing in cleaner technologies.
“Despite electrification offering the opportunity to modernise industry, improve productivity, and reduce carbon emissions, British industrial employers are locked out of such investment options,” he said.
“Without direct action on the policy and infrastructure costs that inflate the price of electricity for British industry, our nation’s employers and innovators will fall behind in the global race to modernise.”
