A new flexibility service has been launched to strengthen network resilience by encouraging customers to shift electricity use ahead of forecast storms.
National Grid DSO said during storms, damage to the network may require alternative arrangements to maintain supplies which can place additional strain on other assets.
The new Responder service aims to help reduce this risk by lowering demand during critical periods.
Customers and flexibility providers will be asked to bring forward electricity use into earlier time windows ahead of forecast events.
As well as supporting network resilience the DSO said the service would also help customers prepare for potential power interruptions by ensuring key equipment, vehicles, and energy storage are ready for use.
