The Government has given the go-ahead to a major undersea power connection aimed at easing pressure on the grid.
The 2GW National Grid Sea Link project between Suffolk and Kent will be capable of carrying enough electricity to power the equivalent of 2 million homes.
The Government said it will help reduce the need to pay generators to switch off when the network cannot carry their electricity.
It also announced the approval of two major solar farms. Great North Road Solar and Biodiversity Park in Nottinghamshire, will have a generating capacity of 800MW.
Frodsham Solar in Cheshire, will combine solar panels with battery storage, allowing some of the electricity generated to be stored for use when it is needed.
