Grid connection issues now biggest hurdle for renewables

Grid connection delays are the biggest bottleneck to renewables delivery according to a new report.

Planning complexity, supply chain pressure and geopolitical risk are all also key issues currently for investors and developers.

However, the report from law firm Brodies also highlights sustained momentum in energy transition investment, alongside renewed confidence in the UK market following recent policy recalibration.

Momentum in the UK momentum is strengthening, with well over three quarters of respondents to a survey expecting appetite for domestic investment to rise over the next 24 months.

Clare Munro, Partner at Brodies, said: “What we are seeing in the market is a much greater degree of realism around how long the transition will take and what is required to deliver it.

“Investors remain committed to net zero, but they are increasingly focused on resilience, integration and security of supply alongside decarbonisation.”
