A focus on more energy storage, consumer-led flexibility, hydrogen-to-power and electricity interconnections are among the areas the Government’s updated Clean Flexibility Roadmap focuses on.
The update shifts the focus from planning to implementation, introducing new regulatory and legislative commitments aimed at enabling consumers, network operators and emerging technologies to play a greater role in electricity markets.
It also establishes a new set of benchmarks to track progress on power system flexibility, which is key to the Government’s clean power and net zero ambitions.
The updated roadmap highlights progress to date with a record 2.3 GW of grid-scale battery storage commissioned last year, to cement GB’s position as Europe's largest battery storage market.
