Renewable energy accounted for more than half of total electricity generation in the second quarter of the year.

Latest data showed solar also hit a new record of 8TWh of power during the period, contributing to the total 53% green power share.

Montel said wind remained Great Britain’s largest source of electricity generation, producing 18.9TWh during the quarter, up 7% compared with Q2 2025 and accounting for around 55% of all renewable generation.

“The generation mix continued to shift towards lower-carbon sources, with renewable generation accounting for more than half of total output,” said Phil Hewitt, director at Montel.

Fossil fuels contributed 23% of electricity generation followed by nuclear (13%).
