Ofgem has issued a call for input around the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) across the energy sector.

The regulator is keen to understand how organisations are assuring the safe, secure, fair and effective operation of AI tools and systems as the technology becomes increasingly deployed across areas such as demand forecasting, system balancing, network planning, trading and customer service.

Ofgem said it was important companies can demonstrate “appropriate confidence” in AI system performance, governance and the outcomes they produce.

It said the call for input will help inform whether current approaches are sufficient or if additional guidance is needed as AI adoption grows.
