Strong clean power progress but 2030 target ‘unlikely’ to be met
The Government’s clean power target for 2030 is unlikely to be fully met, according to a new report.
The Government’s clean power target for 2030 is unlikely to be fully met, according to a new report.
On the current trajectory, 83% of GB generation will come from clean sources by 2030 LCP Delta's annual GB Power Market Outlook found.
Although that represents “meaningful progress” from 62% in 2021, it will remain short of the 95% target.
“However, the journey towards that target is already reshaping the energy system in ways that matter, for emissions, for energy security, and for the households paying the bills,” said the report.
It said there are actions the government should take beyond current policy measures to accelerate progress, including increasing procurement of solar and onshore wind in the next two CfD auctions and timely grid connections.
