SmartestEnergy takes real climate action with Greenfleet

21 January 2022

At SmartestEnergy we take environmental responsibility seriously. This is why we’ve partnered with Greenfleet, a leading environmental non-profit organisation and Australia’s most trusted source of biodiverse carbon offsets to take practical climate action.

Greenfleet plants native biodiverse forests to capture carbon emissions and help fight the impacts of climate change. Since 1997, Greenfleet has planted over 9.6 million trees across over 500 forests in Australia and New Zealand. As they grow, Greenfleet forests absorb carbon emissions, improve soil and water quality, and restore habitat for native wildlife, including many endangered species. Greenfleet forests are also legally protected for up to 100 years, ensuring they can grow for future generations.

“At Greenfleet, we are restoring native forests and growing climate hope thanks to the contributions of our amazing supporters, just like SmartestEnergy” said Wayne Wescott, CEO of Greenfleet. “Year after year, individuals and organisations help Greenfleet plant more biodiverse native forests to capture carbon emissions and it’s their continuous support which makes a tangible and positive difference to the environment” added Mr Wescott.

Each year SmartestEnergy chooses a charity to support through company donations and other areas where we as a team can provide support such as volunteer work in our ‘Giving Something Back’ program.

“We are proud of the impact we’re making. By supporting the work of Greenfleet, we are taking practical action against climate change and helping to restore Australia’s forests, recreate crucial habitat for native wildlife and transform the land back to its natural state”, said Rob Owens, CEO of SmartestEnergy Australia. “By partnering with Greenfleet, we are confident that our climate action provides genuine and lasting environmental benefits, in line with our renewable energy focus”, continued Mr Owens.

SmartestEnergy’s Milestone Forest donation will support a native forest grow and thrive Greenfleet is working with the Dja Dja Wurrung people, Traditional Owners of the land that the Milestone Forest will be established on. This will see the creation of bio-links for native wildlife and direct and sustainable economic benefit for the indigenous community.
