This company news update will be continually revised with the latest information from SmartestEnergy pertaining to our Business Continuity Plan and its implementation in response to Coronavirus (COVID-19).

SmartestEnergy’s established project team is continuing to manage the implementation of our Business Continuity Plan in response to the unique challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Our 300 SmartestEnergy staff at our three UK offices continue to work remotely, maintaining business as usual operations. Although, as the Government's COVID-19 recovery strategy gains momentum, staff will be able to return to our offices with social distancing measures in place, adhering to Government guidelines. 

As we continue to monitor the situation and adhere to Government guidance, we remain fully able and committed to delivering the optimal services to our customers and consultants during this period.

In addition, it’s important to note that our parent company, Marubeni Corporation of Japan, is an owner with global scope and scale capable of managing the immediate economic effects and disruption caused by the coronavirus, such that SmartestEnergy remains a reliable and financially secure partner for our customers.

Support from the UK Government

The UK Government announced a range of measures to support businesses. These include:

  • 12-month business rates holiday for all retail, hospitality and leisure businesses in England
  • Grant funding of £25,000 for retail, hospitality and leisure businesses with property with a rateable value between £15,000 and £51,000
  • A new lending facility from the Bank of England to help support liquidity among larger firms
  • HMRC Time To Pay Scheme
