SmartestEnergy Renews 190MW Viridor Partnership Until 2025
Company news

190MW PPA will see SmartestEnergy continue to provide Viridor’s UK power projects with a route-to-market Energy Trading Services Agreement (ETSA).

February 2021 – London, England: SmartestEnergy is proud to have renewed its longstanding partnership with one of the UK’s biggest recycling and waste management businesses, Viridor.

A SmartestEnergy customer since 2002, Viridor’s portfolio of energy recovery facilities and landfill gas projects export around 1TWh of electricity each year.

The new agreement, initially running until 2025, builds on Viridor’s existing bespoke ETSA framework product by adding a number of further enhanced product features, including a rolling five-year hedging horizon.

Mark Knights, Director, Power Portfolio Management at Viridor said: “Viridor is pleased to be extending its partnership with SmartestEnergy. Since our first contract in 2002, the relationship has grown and developed in tandem with our evolving UK infrastructure portfolio and the complexities of an ever-changing and dynamic energy market. We’re confident that the new agreement represents one of the best offtake contracts in the market and we look forward to continuing working with Smartest for many years to come.”

Angus Widdowson, Head of Smart Generation at SmartestEnergy added: “As one of the UK’s leading purchasers of power from independent generation projects, we’re delighted to be able to accommodate the needs of such a longstanding and valued partner. We will continually look to improve and optimise this contract throughout its lifetime, enabling Viridor to take advantage of new opportunities as they emerge.”
