SmartestEnergy shortlisted for two Energy Awards 2021
Company news

We’re delighted to announce that SmartestEnergy have been shortlisted for two Energy Awards this year for Supplier of the Year and Campaign of the Year.

Following a challenging year, we’re proud to say that we persevered as a company to provide an exceptional customer experience, maintaining business-as-usual operations for our customers and securing key deals aligned with our purpose of working with our customers to drive a smarter transition to the net-zero future.

Supplier of the Year

In the last year, SmartestEnergy have extended beyond the UK, growing to Australia and the United States to offer our renewable product proposition serving I&C Supply customers. Our asset-light energy supplier model continues to set us apart, allowing us to stay adaptable in our approach and able to accommodate a rising number of supply clients on their road to net-zero who wish to acquire their power from specific generating sites.

In addition, alongside our parent business, Marubeni Corporation, and a number of technical partners, we established an innovative electric car pilot project to investigate vehicle-to-grid (V2G) pricing and optimisation prospects for our supply customers. To kick off the project, we set up solar panels, batteries, and V2G chargers on-site at a Marubeni Auto Investment location, complete with testing and monitoring underway.

Our nomination also highlighted our newest division, SmartestEnergy Business. In December of 2019, we acquired Dual Energy, extending operations to small businesses.

What we’re most proud of in the context of all of this growth and development, are our increased customer and consultant net promoter scores of +39 and +40 respectively.

Campaign of the Year

We ran our ‘fast-track to net-zero’ campaign from November 2020 – January 2021. The campaign was established as an umbrella campaign to engage our target audience around the net-zero targets set out in the Future Energy Scenarios report, the role businesses need to play and how as an asset-light energy supplier, we are enabling net-zero journeys through technology advancement and product innovation.

We set out to drive engagement in our first ‘Annual Report,' demonstrating that we ‘walk the talk,' having relocated our headquarters to Canary Wharf, evolved our carbon footprint reporting to account for Scope 3 emissions, and, as a result, purchased carbon offsetting certificates linked to a relevant hydropower project to account for related travel emissions.

We established a multi-channel campaign with supportive assets beyond our Annual Report and leveraged relevant customer examples, such as Cambridge Colleges and Aviva

As a result, there has been a heightened interest in our renewable product offering that extends beyond engagement metrics recorded as a part of the campaign. We were able to support companies with their efforts to ‘fast-track’ their journey to net-zero with products that are suitable at every level.

We look forward to the awards ceremony on the 22nd September to find out the winners and celebrate the contribution that businesses, suppliers and consultants are making to build a cleaner, smarter energy system.
