Meet the Panelists:
Rob Pringle, Chief Technology Officer at SmartestEnergy
Rob joined SmartestEnergy in 2019 and has global responsibilities for all aspects of technology-enabled change and day-to-day IT operations for the organisation. He has over 25 years’ experience in the energy industry across a range of business areas including trading, risk management, energy retail and high availability IT infrastructures and services. Prior to joining SmartestEnergy, Rob was with Shell’s New Energies division working on technology solutions to optimise small scale power assets. Rob has also held senior leadership roles at Gazprom Marketing & Trading (Director of Global IT) and Centrica Energy (Head of Architecture). He has been active in a number industry association initiatives and was a co-founder of the European Energy Trading CIO Forum.
Alex Howard, Head of Strategy at Origami
Alex works for Origami, an energy technology company providing real-time energy optimisation solutions to accelerate the transition to a green energy world. As Head of Strategy, a big part of his role is to get under the skin of market opportunities and identify where Origami’s technology can make the biggest difference. In doing so, Alex has worked with energy companies, National Grid and Ofgem, including through the Innovation Sandbox. Alex currently sits on the Regional Market Advisory Panel for ‘Power Potential’, a world-first project trialling a day-ahead market for reactive power. Alex holds a 1st class degree in Computer Science from Cambridge University.
Paul Usher, Commercial Director at Quorum Development Ltd
Quorum is a market leading provider of software to a portfolio of customers who operate over 28GW of capacity in the Balancing Mechanism (BM) alone. As the company’s commercial director, Paul hears about the challenges being faced by Quorum’s current and future customers first-hand and works closely with the rest of the team to deliver technology-led solutions that provide a firm foundation for the organisations leading the energy revolution. In a career spanning 30 years, Paul has deployed his analytical and creative skills in the manufacturing, digital marketing and energy sectors to deliver technology-led performance improvement.
